Jaime Alguersuari

At the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, Jaime Alguersuari became the youngest driver in Formula One history to start a race at nineteen years and 125 days old. This milestone established him as the first person born in the 1990s to compete in the series, launching a professional racing career that spanned multiple high-profile international circuits.

Early Racing Progression

Born in Barcelona in 1990, Alguersuari began his path in the Italian Formula 1600 Junior Series in 2005. In 2008, he competed in the British Formula Three Championship with Carlin Motorsport. By winning the final three races of the season, he secured the title, becoming the youngest champion in the series' history at eighteen years and 203 days.

Transition to Formula One

After a stint in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Alguersuari joined the Red Bull Junior programme. In mid-2009, he replaced Sébastien Bourdais at Scuderia Toro Rosso. His debut in Hungary marked his record-breaking entry into the sport. Over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, he developed his skills, scoring points in Malaysia and his home race in Spain during 2010. His most consistent performance occurred in 2011, where he recorded multiple top-ten finishes, including seventh-place results in Italy and Korea, alongside eighth-place finishes in Canada, Europe, and India.

Post-F1 Career and Retirement

Following his departure from Toro Rosso at the end of 2011, Alguersuari shifted his focus toward broadcasting and music. He joined the BBC Radio 5 Live team as an expert summariser for the 2012 Formula One season, working alongside commentator James Allen. He later competed in the inaugural season of Formula E with Virgin Racing. By age 25, he opted to end his professional involvement in motorsport to pursue his career as a disc jockey.
