Jacques Burger

Jacques Burger debuted internationally for the Namibia national rugby union team against Zambia in 2004. A loose forward by trade, he established a professional career that spanned leagues in France, South Africa, and the Aviva Premiership, eventually securing two domestic titles before transitioning into a coaching role with his national side.

Early Career and French Stint

Born in Windhoek in 1983, Burger began his professional trajectory through stints with the Bulls and the Griquas. In the 2007/08 season, he moved to France to compete for Stade Aurillacois Cantal Auvergne. His performance during this period drew attention, leading to his recruitment by Brendan Venter as a replacement for Wikus van der Heerden.

Tenure at Saracens

He was identified as a persistent tackler within the English Premiership. His performance earned him the Saracens Player of the Year award for the 2010/11 campaign. He started in both the 2011 and 2015 Premiership final victories.

International Contributions and Retirement

Burger served as captain of the Namibia national rugby union team. During the 2011 global tournament, the IRB's Rugby News Service recognized him as one of the top five players in the competition, citing his work in the tackle and efficiency in rucks. Following a concussion sustained against Georgia in 2015, he retired from international competition. He now serves as the Director of Rugby for the national team and manages a livestock farm in Stampriet.
