Jackson Wang, born in 1994 in Hong Kong, transitioned from a distinguished career as a competitive sabre fencer to become a prominent figure in global music and entertainment. Early Athletic Training
Before his musical career, Wang excelled as a youth athlete. Raised by parents who were professional fencers and gymnasts, he initially pursued gymnastics before switching to sabre fencing. By the age of twelve, he won his first gold medal. His fencing career included significant success at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship in 2011, where he achieved first place. His training required international travel, with periods spent living in Hungary, Denmark, and Ireland.

In 2010, while still preparing for fencing competitions, Wang passed a global audition for the South Korean agency JYP Entertainment. He moved to Seoul in 2011, abandoning offers for university scholarships to pursue professional performance training. He debuted as a member of the group Got7 in 2014. His early career also involved extensive television work, gaining recognition as a variety show host on programs such as Inkigayo and the Chinese production Go Fridge.
Musical Evolution and Team Wang
Seeking creative control, Wang founded Team Wang in 2017 to manage his solo activities in China. His musical output began to gain traction in Western markets, with his first solo album, Mirrors, reaching number 32 on the US Billboard 200 in 2019. He continued this trajectory with the album Magic Man in 2022, which peaked at number 15, and the 2025 release of Magic Man 2, which reached number 13 on the same chart.
