South Korean rapper, singer, dancer, songwriter, and record producer

Jung Ho-seok, better known as J-Hope, launched his career as a dancer in Gwangju before becoming a founding member of the South Korean group BTS in 2013. A versatile musician who composes and produces, he later established himself as a solo artist, marking a significant milestone by headlining the Lollapalooza festival in the United States in 2022.

Early Development and Dance Background

Before his entry into the music industry, J-Hope received six years of formal instruction at the Gwangju Music Academy. He honed his movement skills as a member of the underground dance team Neuron, winning several local and national prizes for his proficiency. This focus on performance ultimately provided the foundation for his shift into vocal work, leading him to sign with Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee.

Contributions to BTS

As the third trainee to join BTS, J-Hope participated in the group's debut on M! Countdown in June 2013. Beyond his group ensemble roles, he contributed several solo tracks to various albums, including 'Intro: Boy Meets Evil' and 'Mama' in 2016, followed by 'Trivia 起: Just Dance' and 'Outro: Ego'. These works allowed him to explore different lyrical themes, ranging from personal hardships to the navigation of his public stage persona.

Solo Discography and Chart Success

In 2018, J-Hope released his inaugural mixtape, Hope World, which reached number 38 on the US Billboard 200. He continued his independent work with the 2019 single 'Chicken Noodle Soup' featuring Becky G, which placed him on the Billboard Hot 100. His full-length studio album, Jack in the Box, appeared in 2022, accompanied by a documentary titled J-Hope in the Box. Further releases included the 2023 single 'On the Street' with J. Cole and the 2024 special album Hope on the Street Vol. 1.

Military Service and Education

J-Hope pursued higher education at Global Cyber University, earning a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment, and later enrolled in an MBA program at Hanyang Cyber University focusing on Advertising and Media. In 2023, he began his mandatory service in the Republic of Korea Army, completing his term in 2024.
