Academic Foundation and Research
Born in 1952 in Ivdel, Russia, Bekeshkina pursued her education at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, graduating in 1974. Following her undergraduate studies, she completed graduate work at the Institute of Philosophy under the Soviet Academy of Sciences. She began her professional research trajectory in 1977 at the Soviet Academy of Sciences, later transitioning to the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1990. During this period, she also served as a scientific editor for the journal Philosophical Thought.

Bekeshkina joined the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in 1996. Her tenure there involved the publication of numerous papers examining the sociology of politics and voting behavior. In 2010, she assumed the role of head of the organization, a position she maintained until her death in 2020. In addition to her foundational work, she contributed to the broader analytical landscape through affiliations with the Ukrainian Think Tanks Liaison Office and the Media Director NGO.
Public Recognition and Legacy
Her analytical work earned regular media presence and public recognition. Focus Magazine ranked her among the most influential women in Ukraine in both 2007 and 2008, citing her focus on political information and foreign policy. Further recognition followed in 2018 and 2020, when the magazine HB included her in its lists of the 100 most successful women in Ukraine. Following her death in 2020 from stomach cancer, Kyiv officials renamed Dmitry Karbyshev Street to Iryna Bekeshkina Street in November 2022.
