A 94th-minute golden goal against Senegal in the 2002 FIFA World Cup quarter-final propelled İlhan Mansız into international prominence. Born in Kempten in 1975, the Turkish forward emerged from the Süper Lig to define a pivotal moment in his nation's footballing history before transitioning into a career as a competitive figure skater and actor.

Football Career and International Impact

Mansız rose to prominence playing for Beşiktaş J.K., where he led the Turkish Süper Lig in scoring during the 2001–02 season. His international debut occurred in October 2001 against Moldova. At the 2002 World Cup, he provided an assist for Hakan Şükür to score the fastest goal in World Cup finals history and added two goals of his own during the third-place play-off. His performance included a notable rainbow flick against Roberto Carlos in the semi-final. He earned the Turkish State Medal of Distinguished Service for his contributions.

Club Transfers and Injury Challenges

Following his international success, Mansız moved to the Japanese club Vissel Kobe. He later signed with Hertha BSC, but a persistent knee injury prevented him from making a first-team appearance, leading to the cancellation of his contract. After a stint with Ankaragücü, he announced his retirement prior to the 2006–07 season. Despite rumors of a comeback and brief periods of training with TSV 1860 Munich in 2009, his professional football career was significantly hampered by seven knee operations and a 2007 car accident.

Transition to Figure Skating

At the age of 33, Mansız began figure skating after competing on the television show Buzda Dans. Partnering with Oľga Beständigová, he set a goal of representing Turkey at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The pair made their competitive debut at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy, finishing 19th. While they failed to qualify for the Olympic Games, they continued to compete in the sport together.

Coaching Tenure

Mansız returned to Beşiktaş J.K. in a professional capacity on 11 July 2018, when he was appointed as an assistant coach alongside Guti. His tenure at the club was brief, as he resigned from the position on 6 February 2019, citing health concerns.
