Early Academic Development
Born in Moscow on 9 January 1962, Ashmanov was raised in a family of mathematicians, including his father, Stanislav Alexandrovich Ashmanov, a scientist focused on mathematical optimization. He pursued his education at the MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, where he focused on abstract algebra. He graduated in 1983 and later completed a thesis titled Architecture and industrial implementation of applied linguistic systems in 1995 to earn his Doctor of Science degree.

His professional career began as an intern researcher at the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre, where he focused on artificial intelligence. In 1987, he moved to Informatic to work on the ORFO spell checker. When most of his colleagues left the country in 1991, Ashmanov stayed to lead the project. His efforts resulted in Microsoft licensing ORFO for its Russian office suite in 1994. He later co-founded MediaLingua in 1995, creating the MultiLex family of bilingual dictionaries.
Internet Holdings and Consulting
Ashmanov joined Rambler in 1999 as a director for software research and development, eventually serving as chief operating officer. Following his departure in 2001, he established Ashmanov & Partners. The firm became a dominant force in Russian search engine optimization, eventually expanding into artificial intelligence through its subsidiary, Nanosemantics. By 2011, the company maintained a significant market share, servicing over 1,000 monthly clients.
Public Service and Recognition
Beyond his business ventures, Ashmanov has participated in government working groups focused on digital economy, information security, and sovereignty. He contributes expertise to the Skolkovo Foundation and lectures at both the Military Academy of Strategic Missile Troops and the Military Academy of the General Staff.
