German Oskarovich Gref oversees operations at Sberbank, serving as its long-standing CEO and chairman of the executive board. Born in 1964 in Panfilov, he emerged as a central figure in Russian economic policy during the early 2000s, balancing a career that shifted between high-level ministerial service and the management of the country's largest financial institution.
Early Development and Academic Path
Born into a family of ethnic German deportees, Gref spent his early years in the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. After working as a legal advisor in the Pavlodar Region from 1981 to 1982 and completing a two-year term of military service, he pursued legal studies.
