In 1977, Cain joined the Pillsbury Company, eventually managing 400 Burger King stores in the Philadelphia region. He later moved to the pizza sector, serving as chairman and CEO of Godfather's Pizza from 1986 to 1996. After the chain experienced financial decline, he led a restructuring effort involving significant layoffs and branch closures, culminating in a leveraged buyout of the company in 1988.
Financial and Political Appointments
Cain held multiple positions within the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, including service as chairman of the Omaha Branch from 1989 to 1991 and chairman of the parent bank until 1996. During the 1990s, he served as CEO of the National Restaurant Association, where he directed lobbying efforts regarding labor regulations, health benefits, and minimum wage policies. He also served on the Kemp Commission in 1995.
Media and Presidential Campaign
Cain gained prominence as a radio personality, hosting The Herman Cain Show on WSB in Atlanta. In May 2011, he announced his candidacy for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, promoting his 9–9–9 tax plan. He suspended his campaign in December 2011 following allegations of sexual harassment, which he denied. Later, he served as a co-chairman of Black Voices for Trump.
