Heinz Fischer (born 1938) is a politician (SPÖ), 8th president of Austria. Fischer was born in Graz on 9 October 1938.
Fischer served as President of Austria (2004–2016), President of the National Council of Austria (1990–2002), member of the National Council of Austria (1971–1983) and member of the National Council of Austria (1987–2004). He was attached to Austrian Federal Government.
Fischer was awarded Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav (2007), Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (1995), Ring of Honour of the Austrian state Styria, Grand Cross with Collar of the Order of the White Rose of Finland (2006) and Knight Grand Cross with Collar of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (2007). He was elected to Club 45. He was educated at University of Vienna (Doctor of Laws) and University of Innsbruck.
Fischer was the son of Rudolf Fischer and Emma Maria Fischer. He married Margit Fischer. He is recorded as following agnosticism.
