Bungartz transitioned into professorial roles early in his career, beginning with an appointment as a professor of numerical analysis and scientific computing at the University of Augsburg in 2000. Four years later, the University of Stuttgart appointed him to the Chair of Simulation of Large Systems. In addition to his primary roles in Munich, he maintains a position as a permanent visiting professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade.
Leadership and Institutional Service
Beyond his teaching and research, Bungartz occupies several leadership positions within the German academic and research landscape. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science before assuming his current deanship in October 2022. Since 2011, he has also served as the chairman of the board for the Deutsches Forschungsnetz. He is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
