Guillermo Subiabre

Guillermo Subiabre Astorga served as a striker for Colo-Colo during an eight-season tenure that spanned both the amateur and professional eras of the club. His athletic career between 1903 and 1964 established him as a consistent presence in Chilean football, marked by his participation in multiple international tournaments and a subsequent transition into coaching.

Early Career and Club Development

Born in Osorno on 25 February 1903, Subiabre developed his skills within the domestic landscape of Chilean football. His initial domestic club involvements included Club Social y Deportivo Colo-Colo, where he played from 1925 to 1926. He also spent time with Santiago Wanderers in 1926 before returning to Colo-Colo in 1927. He remained with that side until 1934, completing a total of eight seasons with the organization.

International Competition

Subiabre secured a position on the Chile national football team, representing the country between 1926 and 1930. Over this period, he made 14 official appearances and recorded 10 goals. His international experience included travel to represent his country at the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1930 FIFA World Cup, pitting his abilities against various national squads.

Professional Legacy and Later Life

In 1934, the administration at Colo-Colo designated Subiabre as a lifetime honorary player, acknowledging his contribution to the team throughout the transition from amateur to professional operations. Following the conclusion of his active playing career, he served as an association football coach. Subiabre died in Santiago on 11 April 1964 at the age of 61.
