He became a pioneer of television as a medium for writers, frequently appearing as a panelist and eccentric wit. His career in media was marked by notable interactions, including a televised appearance with Marlene Dietrich in 1963, though his frequent entertainment roles led to friction with segments of the literary elite.
Literary and Humanitarian Legacy
Beyond his fiction, including works like the Pa Pinkelman series, Bomans was a devotee of Charles Dickens. He served as a vice-president for the Dickens Fellowship in London and published extensive criticism on the author. In 1986, he received the title Righteous Among the Nations for his actions helping Jewish individuals. He held the rank of Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau at the time of his death in 1971.
