In 1994, Halliwell responded to an advertisement in The Stage magazine seeking members for a new pop group. Following several line-up changes, the final membership of the Spice Girls included Halliwell alongside Melanie C, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, and Emma Bunton. Managed by Simon Fuller, the group achieved unprecedented success with their debut album, Spice, which reached number one in 17 countries and sold 30 million copies worldwide. During this period, Halliwell became closely identified with the girl power movement and gained international recognition for wearing a Union Jack dress at the 1997 Brit Awards.
Solo Transition and Continued Media Work
Halliwell departed the Spice Girls in May 1998, citing exhaustion and creative differences.
