Kwon Ji-yong, known professionally as G-Dragon, emerged as a central figure in the global expansion of South Korean music as the leader of the boy band BigBang. Early Career and BigBang
Born in Seoul in 1988, he began his public life at age six in the musical group Little Roo'ra. After years as a trainee under SM Entertainment and later YG Entertainment, he became a founding member of BigBang. The group achieved significant commercial success with hits such as 'Lies', 'Last Farewell', and 'Haru Haru', all of which G-Dragon composed. His involvement in production became a signature element of the band's output.

He continued to produce successful solo projects including the EPs One of a Kind and Kwon Ji Yong, alongside the studio album Coup d'Etat. In 2025, he released the studio album Übermensch, which earned Album of the Year at the Melon Music Awards.

His academic path included studies in post-modern music at Kyung Hee University and Sports Technology Management at Gukje Cyber University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 2013. He later obtained a master's degree in Supply Chain Management and Fashion Merchandising from Sejong University in 2016. In 2025, he became the youngest recipient and first idol to receive the 4th class Order of Cultural Merit for his global impact on pop culture.
