Fulvio Conti served as the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Enel, the largest power company in Italy, from May 2005 until May 2014. Throughout his career, he managed significant international corporate expansion projects and held executive financial roles across several major European and American industrial organizations.
Professional Education and Early Roles
Born in Rome in 1947, Conti earned a degree in Economics from Sapienza University of Rome. His early professional path began at Mobil Oil, where he took on the role of Chief Financial Officer for Mobil Oil Europe in London by 1989. In 1991, he transitioned to the position of head of Administration, Finance and Control for Europe at Campbell. He later returned to Italy to serve as Chief Financial Officer at Montecatini before joining Montedison-Compart in 1993.

In 1996, Conti moved to the public transport sector as General Director and Chief Financial Officer for the Italian Railways company, Ferrovie dello Stato. He subsequently joined Telecom Italia in 1998, holding board member responsibilities at TIM and acting as the group's Chief Financial Officer. His tenure at Enel began in 1999 as Chief Financial Officer, leading to his subsequent appointment as Chief Executive Officer and General Manager.
International Corporate Strategy
Under his leadership at Enel, Conti orchestrated major international takeovers to expand the utility's reach. This included the acquisition of Endesa, which operated as a primary power provider in Spain and Latin America, and the purchase of the Russian utility company OGK 5. Beyond his executive work, he has served as Chairman of Eurelectric and Deputy Chairman of Endesa. He currently holds board positions at Barclays plc, AON, and the National Academy of Santa Cecilia.
Recognition and Academic Contribution
The Italian Republic honored Conti with the Order of Merit for Labour in May 2009. Later that same year, he received the title of Officier de la Légion d’Honneur from the French Republic. In 2007, the University of Genoa granted him a Doctor Honoris Causa degree in Electrical Engineering. He also serves as a lecturer of Corporate Finance for the MBA program at the School of Economics of LUISS University in Rome.
