A professional left-back career began on 22 September 2010 when Faouzi Ghoulam entered a Coupe de la Ligue fixture as a substitute for AS Saint-Étienne. Early Development and Club Breakthrough
Born on 1 February 1991 in Saint-Priest-en-Jarez, Ghoulam grew up in a large family with Algerian roots. His professional path commenced within the Saint-Étienne system. After his debut in 2010, he secured a regular starting position by the end of that season. The defender joined S.S.C. Napoli during the winter of 2014. Under manager Rafael Benítez, he established himself as a fixture in the starting lineup. His time in Italy included winning the Coppa Italia in the 2013–14 and 2019–20 seasons, alongside a Supercoppa Italiana victory in 2014. In November 2017, his progress stalled due to an anterior cruciate ligament rupture sustained against Manchester City in the Champions League, though he returned to training by January 2018.
International Representation
Despite a brief connection to the France under-21 preliminary squad in 2011, Ghoulam committed to the Algerian national team. He made his debut on 26 March 2013 during a World Cup qualifier against Benin. He featured in the 2014 World Cup, where the team reached the round of 16, and scored his first international goal during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations against South Africa. In total, he earned 37 caps and recorded five goals between 2013 and 2017.
Later Career Phases
Following his departure from Napoli, Ghoulam signed with Angers in Ligue 1 as a free agent on 31 January 2023. This tenure concluded at the end of the 2022–23 season following the club's relegation. He subsequently moved to the Turkish top division to compete for Hatayspor on a one-year contract.
