Early Career and Debut
Born in Mumbai, Deol is the daughter of actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School, Kodaikanal International School, and Mithibai College. Her professional entry into cinema began with the romantic thriller Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe in 2002. Although the production experienced commercial difficulties, her performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Following this, she appeared in projects such as Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa, and the war epic LOC: Kargil.

In 2004, Deol expanded her reach by appearing in the political film Aayutha Ezhuthu, directed by Mani Ratnam, where she portrayed a French teacher. She later featured in the Hindi version titled Yuva. Her career gained significant commercial momentum with the success of the action film Dhoom, where she acted alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. This period also included roles in the action thriller Dus, the horror feature Kaal, and the comedy No Entry in 2005, alongside a performance in the drama Main Aisa Hi Hoon.
Hiatus and Return to Media
After a period of varied releases in 2007 and 2008, including the film Cash and an item number in Sunday, Deol entered a hiatus from cinema. She returned in 2011 for Tell Me O Kkhuda, produced by her mother, but subsequently stepped away from film sets. In 2015, she transitioned to television, serving as a judge on the reality series MTV Roadies. Her later activities include the production and performance of the short film Ek Duaa in 2021 and a lead role in the psychological thriller series Rudra: The Edge of Darkness in 2022.
