Eric Prydz

The 2004 single Call on Me topped the UK singles chart for five weeks and became an international hit, yet the Swedish composer and producer Eric Prydz eventually distanced himself from the track. Born in Täby in 1976, he established himself as a prominent figure in electronic music through diverse aliases and complex, large-scale live performances.

Early Career and Commercial Breakthrough

Prydz gained initial prominence during the mid-2000s. Following the massive chart success of Call on Me, he released Proper Education in 2006, a remix of a Pink Floyd track. In 2008, he released Pjanoo, which topped the UK Dance Chart. During this period, he was part of a group of DJs that informally called themselves the Swedish House Mafia alongside Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello, though he did not join the official group formed later that year.

Technical Innovation and Production Aliases

As a producer, Prydz is credited with the Pryda snare, a compressed and sustained sample used to mark structural progressions in electronic compositions. He operates several record labels, including Pryda, Pryda Friends, Pryda Presents, and Mouseville. Through his Mouseville imprint, established in 2002, he releases techno tracks under the Cirez D alias. In 2012, he released his debut artist album, Eric Prydz Presents Pryda, on Virgin Records.

Live Spectacles and EPIC Series

Prydz became known for high-production-value live shows, most notably the EPIC series. His EPIC 3.0 performance at Madison Square Garden in 2014 featured a 20-metre hologram and 32 lasers. Later, in 2019, his EPIC 6.0 show at Tomorrowland utilized an eight-meter-wide transparent LED holosphere. In April 2023, he presented a HOLO performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Studio Albums and Recent Appearances

Prydz released his debut studio album, Opus, in 2016. That same year, he won DJ of the Year at the Electronic Music Awards. In 2019, he commemorated the 15th anniversary of his Pryda alias with the release of PR(15)DA, a collection of 27 songs. In 2025, he performed Call on Me for the first time in two decades during a showcase in Austin, Texas.
