Academic Formation
Born in 1974, Trélat pursued his higher education within the French university system. In 1995, he entered the École normale supérieure de Cachan, where he focused on mathematics. He completed his doctoral work in 2000 at the University of Burgundy in Dijon. His thesis explored the transcendence of the value function in optimal control and sub-Riemannian geometry within the Martinet case under the supervision of Bernard Bonnard. By 2005, he had earned his habilitation at the University of Paris-Sud, focusing his analysis on control in finite and infinite dimensions.

Trélat’s teaching and research career began at the University of Burgundy, where he served from 1998 to 2001. Following an assistant professorship at the University of Paris-Sud starting in 2001, he moved to the University of Orléans in 2006 to serve as a professor. Since 2011, he has maintained a professorship at Sorbonne Université, associated with the Laboratoire Jacques-Louis Lions. He took on the role of director for the Laboratoire Jacques-Louis Lions in 2020. Previously, he led the Fondation sciences mathématiques de Paris from 2015 until 2019.
Professional Recognition
His work in mathematics has earned him several distinctions. He received the Maurice Audin Mathematic Prize in 2010 and the Blaise-Pascal Award in 2014. Additionally, he was the recipient of the SIAM Outstanding Paper Prize in 2006 and the Prix Madame Victor Noury in 2016. He became a member of the Institut Universitaire de France in 2011 and was elected to the Academia Europaea in 2024. In 2018, he served as an invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians held in Rio de Janeiro.
