Early Career and Education
Born in 1976, Bunton attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School, where she developed her early performance skills. In 1994, Bunton joined a group that responded to an advertisement in The Stage. After initial management difficulties with Heart Management, the group signed with Simon Fuller in March 1995 and subsequently secured a deal with Virgin Records. Their 1996 debut single, Wannabe, topped charts in 35 countries. The group continued their commercial run with albums such as Spice, Spiceworld, and Forever before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2000.
Solo Music and Media Work
Bunton transitioned into a solo career with her 2001 debut album, A Girl Like Me, which earned gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry. She followed this with albums including Free Me, Life in Mono, and My Happy Place. Beyond music, she established herself as a television judge on programmes like Dancing on Ice, Your Face Sounds Familiar, and Boy Band. Between 2013 and 2018, she co-presented the Heart Breakfast radio show.
Public Service and Current Roles
In 2014, Bunton took on the role of a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She remains active in the broadcasting industry, presenting her own show on Heart Radio on Sunday evenings as of December 2024. Her career spans multiple disciplines, including songwriting, composing, and voice acting, while maintaining her connection to the music industry through sporadic Spice Girls reunions, including tours in 2007 and 2019.
