Early Life and Education
Born in 1869 in Kawit, Philippines, Aguinaldo was raised within a well-to-do family. He received his education at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Before his military and revolutionary activities, he occupied local administrative roles, serving as a cabeza de barangay and later as a municipal governor-captain, which provided him with early experience in regional governance and organizational leadership.

Aguinaldo joined the Katipunan, a secret organization dedicated to the expulsion of Spanish authorities, and adopted the nom de guerre Magdalo. As a general, he commanded forces during the Philippine Revolution, which began in 1896. He secured major victories in Cavite, notably during the Battle of Imus, where his troops successfully repelled Spanish forces and captured significant military equipment, including the sword of Brigadier-General Ernesto de Aguirre.
Presidency and Later Life
Following his military campaigns, Aguinaldo served as the President of the Philippines from 1899 to 1901. Throughout his life, his political path included shifts in alignment and collaboration during the period of Japanese occupation in World War II. He remained a public figure until his death in 1964 in Manila. He was eventually buried at the Aguinaldo Shrine and posthumously received the Philippine Legion of Honor.
