Dmytro Chyhrynskyi, born in 1986 in Iziaslav, established his professional career as a central defender, primarily associated with Shakhtar Donetsk. Early Career and Shakhtar Rise
Developing through the UFK Lviv system before moving to Donetsk at age 14, he debuted in the Vyshcha Liha in 2004. A loan to Metalurh Zaporizhzhia provided essential top-flight experience, facilitating his return to Shakhtar as a consistent presence. By the 2006–07 season, he was a regular starter and captained the team in the 2008 Ukrainian Cup final victory over Dynamo Kyiv.

The 2008–09 season saw him contribute to a UEFA Cup title after victory against Werder Bremen. His performances prompted a €25 million transfer to Barcelona in August 2009, making him the first Ukrainian to play for the club. Despite winning La Liga, he struggled for consistent playing time and returned to Shakhtar a year later for €15 million.
Later Playing Years
Following his second stint in Donetsk, which concluded in 2015, he played for Dnipro before moving to Greece. At AEK Athens, he secured the 2017–18 Super League Greece title and individual selection for the Team of the Season. He finished his playing career with periods at Ionikos Nikaias and a third, final return to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023.
International and Managerial Transition
He represented Ukraine between 2007 and 2011, earning 29 caps. While named to the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad, injury prevented his participation. Following retirement from play, he moved into coaching, becoming an assistant at Aris in 2025 before his appointment as head coach of Cypriot club Krasava Ypsonas in July 2026.
