Djamel Abdoun

Algerian-French footballer (born 1986)

Djamel Abdoun made his senior international debut for Algeria on 18 January 2010 during a goalless Africa Cup of Nations match against Angola. Raised in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil, the winger represented France at youth levels before securing his dual nationality status to represent his ancestral homeland of Algeria on the global stage, including at the 2010 World Cup.

Early Career and French Youth Progression

Abdoun began his development as a youth player at Paris Saint-Germain in 2002. His professional pathway moved to Ajaccio in 2003, where he made 12 appearances over four seasons and scored two goals. During this period, he became a consistent presence in French youth international football, contributing to the squad that secured the 2005 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship in Northern Ireland and later winning the 2007 Toulon Tournament. A brief loan spell at Manchester City in January 2007 resulted in a single substitute appearance during a 3-1 FA Cup victory against Southampton.

During the 2012-13 season, he was recognized as the Super League Greece Player of the Season and continued his role as the top assist provider.
