The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, marked a historic milestone when Diyora Keldiyorova secured the gold medal in the women's 52 kg event. This victory established her as the first athlete from Uzbekistan to claim an Olympic gold in judo and the first female athlete from her nation to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games.

Early Career and Developmental Years

Born in Juma, Uzbekistan, in 1998, Keldiyorova began her competitive journey in youth circuits. Her early recognition included a bronze medal in the girls' 44 kg category at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China. She continued to refine her skills while pursuing education at Samarkand State University. By 2018, she competed in the women's 48 kg division at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, though she was eliminated during the repechage rounds.

Ascension in International Judo

Keldiyorova achieved a significant breakthrough in 2019 by winning gold in her weight class at the Asian-Pacific Judo Championships in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. That same year, she collected bronze medals at both the Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy, and the Military World Games in Wuhan, China. She later expanded her reach by securing podium finishes at various tournaments, including the Judo World Masters in Qingdao and the 2021 Judo Grand Slam Antalya in Turkey.

Championship Consistency and Records

Her performance across global tournaments cemented her status as a premier judoka. She claimed consecutive silver medals at the World Judo Championships in 2023 in Doha, Qatar, and 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Between these accomplishments, she maintained consistent results at events ranging from the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong to the Grand Slam circuits in Tel Aviv and Antalya. Keldiyorova holds the distinction of being the first Uzbek woman to win a Grand Slam tournament.

Recognition and Military Service

Beyond her athletic achievements, Keldiyorova has received several national honors in Uzbekistan. Her accolades include the Pride of Uzbekistan, the Meritorious athlete of Uzbekistan, the Zulfiya State Award, and the Future creator medal. Outside of her sporting life, she serves with the rank of senior lieutenant.
