In 2003, Lugano joined São Paulo FC. His arrival was unconventional, as the club president signed him without consulting the head coach, leading to his nickname, the President's Man. He became a defensive fixture, winning the Campeonato Paulista, the Copa Libertadores, and the FIFA Club World Championship in 2005. The following year, he moved to Fenerbahçe for a €7.5 million fee. In Turkey, he helped the club secure a league title during its centennial season and became a noted figure among supporters for his offensive contributions from set pieces.
European Tenure and Final Seasons
Lugano's European career included a stint at Paris Saint-Germain starting in 2011, though injuries and form limited his impact.
