Early Development and Junior Success
Born in 1971 in Twynholm, Coulthard grew up in a family engaged with motorsport. After receiving his first kart for his eleventh birthday, he claimed several regional titles, including the Scottish Kart Championship. His transition to car racing began in 1989, leading to a notable win in the P&O Ferries Formula Ford 1600 Junior championship. By 1991, he was competing in British Formula 3, where he took five victories and secured the Macau Grand Prix title.

Coulthard joined the Williams team as a test driver in 1993, earning a promotion to a race seat during the 1994 season. He claimed his first Grand Prix win in Portugal in 1995. Transitioning to McLaren in 1996, he spent several years with the team, achieving a career-best second place in the 2001 World Drivers' Championship. His final stint in Formula One took place with Red Bull, beginning in 2005 and ending with his retirement in 2008.
Broadcasting and Administration
Following his retirement from full-time racing, Coulthard transitioned into media roles, working for the British Broadcasting Corporation as a commentator and analyst. He later moved to Channel 4 in 2016 and joined the streaming service Viaplay in 2022. Beyond broadcasting, he remained active in the sport, including a presidency at the British Racing Drivers' Club starting in 2019 and occasional participation in the Race of Champions.
