General Motors Scholar David Baszucki graduated from Stanford University in 1985 after completing an internship focused on engine control software. Born in Winnipeg in 1963 and raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, he navigated a career spanning physics simulation development, angel investment, and the management of a high-growth platform that hosts millions of daily users across global digital environments.
Early Software Development
During the late 1980s, Baszucki collaborated with his brother Greg Baszucki to establish Knowledge Revolution. The firm developed Interactive Physics, a tool designed to simulate 2D physics experiments, followed by the mechanical design application Working Model. MSC Software acquired Knowledge Revolution in December 1998 for $20 million. Baszucki subsequently served as a vice president and general manager at MSC Software from 2000 until 2002.
Transition to Investment and Roblox
After departing MSC Software, he founded the angel investment firm Baszucki & Associates, which he operated from 2003 to 2004. During this period, he provided seed funding for Friendster. In late 2003, he began developing an early prototype initially titled eBlocks, which moved through iterations named GoBlocks and DynaBlocks before becoming Roblox in January 2004. The game officially launched on September 1, 2006.
