Dariush Mehrjui

Iranian filmmaker (1939–2023)

Dariush Mehrjui (1939–2023) was an Iranian screenwriter, translator and director. Mehrjui was born in Tehran on 8 December 1939. He died in Karaj on 14 October 2023, at the age of 84.

Mehrjui is best known for The Cow. He worked in writing and film direction. He had begun working by 1966.

The honours on record include Knight of the Legion of Honour and Golden Shell (1993). Mehrjui appeared at Documenta 6. He studied at University of California, Los Angeles.

Mehrjui married Vahideh Mohammadifar and Faryar Javaherian. The recorded cause of death is stabbing.

Documenta 6 was held in Kassel, Germany.
