Early Development and Theatre
Boyle attended Thornleigh Salesian College and Cardinal Newman Catholic High School before studying English and drama at Bangor University. His early professional years were spent with the Joint Stock Theatre Company and the Royal Court Theatre. During the 1980s, he directed productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company and produced television films for BBC Northern Ireland, including the controversial Elephant, eventually directing episodes for series such as Inspector Morse.

In 1994, Boyle directed his first feature film, Shallow Grave. The success of this project, which won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film, facilitated the creation of Trainspotting in 1996. These early works were credited with revitalizing the British film industry during the 1990s. He later helmed a variety of projects, including The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Steve Jobs.
Global Recognition and Slumdog Millionaire
Boyle achieved significant international acclaim for his 2008 drama Slumdog Millionaire. The film earned him an Academy Award for Best Director, a BAFTA Award for Best Direction, and a Golden Globe Award. His body of work also includes 127 Hours, T2 Trainspotting, Yesterday, and the television production Mr. Wroe's Virgins.
