The water kiosk in the Bessengue neighborhood of Douala stands as a functional public facility, integrating a fountain with food retail space. Commissioned by doual'art in 2003, this structure utilized a canopy design inspired by construction methods established during the Bessengue City workshops led by Goddy Leye and the ArtBakery center.
Education and Early Career
Born in 1960 in Cameroon, Danièle Diwouta-Kotto completed her architectural studies in France, graduating from the Ecole d'architecture Paris-Villemin in 1986. Within that same year, she established her own organization, Passerelle Sud. By 1989, she launched her private practice, AGG Cabinet d'Architecture Diwouta, based in Douala.

Diwouta-Kotto focuses her research on the transformation of colonial architecture and urban evolution across African cities. Beginning in 2003, she undertook a systematic study that culminated in the 2010 publication, Suites architecturales: Kinshasa, Douala, Dakar. This work served as the inaugural volume for the D'architectures & d'Afrique series.
Public Engagement and Professional Advocacy
An active member of the Cameroon architects association (ONAC), she founded the V.A.A. (Villes et Architectures d'Afrique) organization. She frequently contributes to international symposia and conferences regarding urban development and sustainability. Her professional involvement includes participating in the 2003 Architecture et Développement durable conferences in Douala, the 2005 Femmes Bâtisseuses convention at UNESCO, and the 2008 APERAU seminar in Lomé.
Exhibitions and Professional Recognition
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, her designs appeared in various international exhibitions. Her work featured at the Salon MIC in Paris and Los Angeles between 1993 and 1994, the Around and Around collective exhibition in 1995, and the Havana Biennial in 2001. Her professional profile has appeared in Revue Noire, and in 2001 she was named among the 100 individuals influencing change in Cameroon.
