Academic Career at Iași
Born in 1844 in Bacău, Climescu received his initial education at the princely academy in Iași before pursuing advanced studies in France. Upon his return, he began a lengthy tenure at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in 1871, where he served as a professor of analytic geometry and spherical trigonometry until 1909. His administrative contributions included a twenty-one-year term as dean of the sciences faculty, starting in 1880, and a six-year period as rector beginning in 1901. Beyond the university, he taught at the upper normal school of Iași between 1884 and 1896.

Climescu focused on disseminating mathematical knowledge through periodicals and textbooks. In 1883, he helped found the publication Recreații Științifice, serving as its primary contributor with articles covering algebra, arithmetic, and geometry. He also contributed historiographical analysis to the Gazeta Matematică editorial board. His pedagogical influence extended through multiple textbooks, including works on algebra published in 1887, rational-number arithmetic in 1890, and elementary geometry in 1891. His 1898 treatise on analytic geometry remains notable as the second publication of its kind within Romania.
Political Involvement
Parallel to his academic obligations, Climescu was an active participant in Romanian political life as a member of the National Liberal Party. He entered the Chamber of Deputies of Romania in 1884 to represent Bacău. He subsequently served in the Senate of Romania, representing Iași from 1889 until 1910. Later in his life, he held the position of mayor of Iași for a brief period in 1921. His public service earned him recognition as an officer of the Order of the Star of Romania and a commander of the Order of the Crown.
