The professional career of Cho Jung-seok commenced in 2004 with a debut performance in a stage production of The Nutcracker. Since that initial role, the Seoul-born actor has transitioned from a prolific background in musical theatre to becoming a major presence in South Korean cinema and television, earning widespread recognition for his versatility across genres.

Early Career and Musical Theatre

Admitted to the Seoul Institute of the Arts, Cho prioritized financial stability for his family after his father passed away in 2000. He withdrew from his studies to pursue a professional career, ultimately performing in twenty-five musical productions over his first nine years. Notable stage credits during this period included Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Grease, and The Harmonium in My Memory.

Cinematic Breakthrough

In 2012, Cho secured his first major film role as Nab-ddeuk in Architecture 101. The performance earned him a Best New Actor award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and elevated his industry standing. He followed this success with a supporting role in the historical film The Face Reader, winning further accolades including a Best Supporting Actor award at the Grand Bell Awards.

Television and Sustained Success

Cho became a prominent television lead, headlining projects such as You Are the Best!, Oh My Ghost, Don't Dare to Dream, and Hospital Playlist. His filmography continued to expand with projects including Exit, which grossed over US$69.5 million globally in 2019, and the 2024 film Pilot, for which he received the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Actor.
