Foundations and Early Theatrical Work
Born in 1977 at Forest Gate, Ejiofor began his acting career in school productions at Dulwich Prep & Senior, where he portrayed the gravedigger in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Ejiofor built a reputation for diverse film roles, from the antagonist The Operative in Serenity to a revolutionary in Children of Men. His performance as Solomon Northup in 2013's 12 Years a Slave secured him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and an Academy Award nomination. His television credits include the miniseries Dancing on the Edge, which garnered a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, and the science fiction series The Man Who Fell to Earth.
Directing and Marvel Cinematic Universe
The actor entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 as Karl Mordo in Doctor Strange, a role he reprised in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He also provided the voice for Scar in the 2019 film The Lion King. Beyond acting, he expanded his creative output to include writing and directing, notably for the films The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and Rob Peace.
Honours and Professional Recognition
In 2008, Ejiofor was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to the arts.
