Early Career and Television Beginnings
Born in Buffalo in 1981, Murray attended Clarence High School before pursuing professional representation. His initial screen work began in 2000 with a guest appearance on the MTV series Undressed. He quickly gained traction on The WB, securing the recurring role of Tristin DuGray on the comedy-drama Gilmore Girls. By 2001, he had expanded his television presence with a role as Charlie Todd in the series Dawson's Creek while also making an appearance on the CBS crime drama Diagnosis: Murder.

The year 2003 marked a significant shift in his career trajectory. He participated in the Walt Disney Pictures comedy Freaky Friday, which achieved global box office earnings of approximately $161 million. Shortly thereafter, he was cast as Lucas Scott in the long-running series One Tree Hill. The show became a cornerstone of his career, remaining on air until 2009 and earning him multiple Teen Choice Awards. During this period, he also starred in the 2004 romantic comedy A Cinderella Story and the 2005 horror film House of Wax.
Later Roles and Writing Ventures
Following his exit from One Tree Hill, Murray maintained a presence in both television and film. He appeared in the Iraq War drama Home of the Brave and the film Fruitvale Station. His later television credits include roles in Chosen, Agent Carter, Sun Records, Star, and Riverdale. In 2023, he began starring as Cal Jones in the romantic drama series Sullivan's Crossing. Beyond acting, he has pursued writing, authoring the graphic novel Everlast with illustrator Danijel Žeželj and co-authoring the novel American Drifter with Heather Graham.
