Early Education and Financial Beginnings
Born in 1975 in The Bronx, Meehan graduated from John F. Kennedy Catholic High School in 1993. Her formative international experience occurred at age 16 during an exchange program in Río Gallegos, Argentina. She later earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Boston College. Upon entering the workforce, she focused on finance, serving as a vice president of Private Banking at JPMorgan Chase between 1997 and 2003, followed by a role as a Vice President of Asset Management at Lehman Brothers from 2003 to 2004.

Meehan transitioned into the United States Foreign Service in 2004. Her early assignments included a consular position at the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia, alongside service in Dubai and Iraq. By 2010, she returned to Washington, D.C., to work as a line officer and special assistant to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. From 2012 to 2015, she served as the spokesperson for the White House National Security Council. Her security work continued in 2016 as a senior advisor at the NSC, where she helped coordinate presidential travel to Cuba.
Ambassadorship and International Programs
Nominated by President Joe Biden in July 2021, Meehan was confirmed as the United States ambassador to Chile by the Senate on July 20, 2022. After being sworn in on August 29, 2022, she presented her credentials to President Gabriel Boric on September 30, 2022. She served in this capacity until January 10, 2025. Between her State Department roles, she also served as dean and Virginia Rusk fellow at Georgetown University and held executive leadership positions at the Obama Foundation, focusing on global programs.
