Belisario Betancur (1923–2018) was a former President of Colombia. Betancur was born in Amagá on 4 February 1923. He died in Bogotá on 7 December 2018, at the age of 95.
Betancur held office as President of Colombia (1982–1986), ambassador of Colombia, member of the Senate of Colombia (1970–1978) and member of the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia (1951–1953).
Betancur received Collar of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (1983), Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation (1983), Menéndez Pelayo International Prize (2007), Collar of the Order of Charles III (1984) and Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (1977). He was elected to European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Academia Mexicana de la Lengua and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. He studied at Pontifical Bolivarian University.
Betancur married Rosa Helena Álvarez Yepes. He had one recorded child, Diego Betancur Álvarez. The recorded cause of death is kidney infection.
