As he assumed the duties of professor and director of the psychiatric clinic, his work expanded to include institutional reforms. Most notably, he assisted in the establishment of the Provinzial-Jugendheim, a specialized center dedicated to the treatment and educational needs of psychopathic youth.

The output of his research encompassed various domains including clinical psychiatry, brain pathology, and pathological anatomy. Among his published works, his expertise in forensic psychiatry was formalized in the treatise Gerichtliche Psychiatrie. Ein Leitfaden für Mediziner und Juristen. Additionally, he collaborated with Ludwig Bruns and Theodor Ziehen on the Handbuch der Nervenkrankheiten im Kindesalter, a textbook focused on nervous disorders affecting children. He remained active in his research and teaching until his death in 1912.
