A 12 million euro transfer fee announced on 9 August 2011 established Arda Turan as the most expensive Turkish footballer in history at that time. Throughout his professional career, which spanned major leagues in Spain, the midfielder became recognized for his technical ball control, dribbling ability, and tactical vision on the pitch.
Early Career and Galatasaray
Born in Fatih in 1987, Turan emerged from the Galatasaray youth system. Manager Gheorghe Hagi promoted him to the first team for the 2004–05 season, with his official debut occurring on 22 January 2005 against Bursaspor in a Turkish Cup match. Following a loan period at Manisaspor during the 2005–06 season, he returned to Galatasaray. By the 2009–10 campaign, he assumed the captaincy and the number 10 shirt, continuing a lineage previously held by Hagi and Metin Oktay.
