Early Education and Migration
Darzi received his initial education at Baghdad College before moving to Ireland at age 17. He completed his medical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1984, subsequently earning an MD from Trinity College Dublin. His relocation to Britain in 1990 preceded his appointment as a consultant surgeon at Central Middlesex Hospital by 1991.

Based at Imperial College London since 1994, Darzi attained a professorship by 1996 and was named Chair of Surgery in 1998. He holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery, focusing on minimally invasive techniques and robotics. In 2007, Darzi entered the House of Lords and served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Health.
