Early Development and Training
Born in 1981, Kournikova began her formal training at the Spartak Tennis Club in 1986 under the guidance of Larissa Preobrazhenskaya. Kournikova entered the WTA Tour as a fourteen-year-old at the 1995 Moscow Ladies Open. By 1996, she had become the youngest player to participate in the Fed Cup for Russia. Her performance at the 1996 US Open, where she reached the fourth round, propelled her into the top 100 rankings. In 1997, she reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon during her debut, becoming only the second woman in the open era to achieve this feat.
Doubles Success and Retirement
