Early Career in Indonesia
Born in Jakarta on 29 April 1974, Anggun began her musical training under the guidance of her father, a writer, and the vocal coach Pranadjaja. She rose to national prominence in the late 1980s with the hit single 'Mimpi', which Rolling Stone Indonesia later recognized as one of the 150 Greatest Indonesian Songs of All Time. Before her departure from the country in 1994, she released five studio albums, including Anak Putih Abu Abu (1991) and Nocturno (1992), and had sold over four million records.

Following a move to France in 1996, Anggun secured a recording contract with Sony Music after working with producer Erick Benzi. Her international debut, 'Snow on the Sahara' (1997), was released in 33 countries and sold more than one million copies worldwide. She later represented France in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest held in Baku with the track 'Echo (You and I)'. Her singles have appeared on both Billboard US and Billboard European Hot 100 charts, making her the first Indonesian artist to achieve such international success.
Television and Philanthropy
Beyond her recording career, Anggun has maintained a consistent presence in television and theatre. She served as a judge on various competitions, including 'Asia's Got Talent' (2015–2019) and regional versions of 'The X Factor', 'The Voice', and 'Masked Singer'. Her performance career extends to the stage, notably in the 2023 French musical 'Al Capone' and the 2024 Italian revival of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Additionally, she has held two global ambassadorships with the United Nations for the International Year of Microcredit and the Food and Agriculture Organization.
