Early Musical Foundations
Raised in a musical household in Katrineholm, Olzon began singing during her childhood and spent eight years studying the oboe. Her formative experiences included touring with her mother’s band and participating in talent shows. Before pursuing music as a primary career, she held various roles including factory worker, veterinarian assistant, and hairdresser. Olzon’s early career in rock was defined by her tenure with Alyson Avenue. Joining the group initially as a studio singer, she transitioned into the lead vocalist role. The band secured a record deal with AOR Heaven following the success of a 1999 demo. She contributed to their debut album, Presence of Mind, released in 2000, and the follow-up, Omega, issued in 2004. After departing the band in 2006, she later rejoined for a 2018 performance in Malmö.
Nightwish and International Recognition
Selected as the replacement for Tarja Turunen, Olzon joined Nightwish in early 2007. Her entry into the band was marked by the release of the single Eva and the commercially successful album Dark Passion Play, which achieved double platinum status in Finland and topped charts in multiple European nations. During her tenure, she recorded Imaginaerum, starred in the band’s accompanying film, and toured extensively before her departure in October 2012.
Solo Projects and Collaborations
Following her exit from Nightwish, Olzon focused on developing original material. She released her debut solo album, Shine, in 2014, with production work from Stefan Örn and Johan Glössner. Her professional portfolio also includes collaborations with the Finnish heavy metal band The Dark Element and the duo Allen / Olzon, continuing her career as a composer, songwriter, and singer.
