She added two silver medals to her collection during those same Games. Four years later, at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, she earned another gold medal in the 4×100 m medley relay and claimed silver in the 100 m butterfly. Beyond the Olympic pool, she demonstrated consistency by breaking the world record in the 200 m butterfly on two separate occasions in 1978.

The international community recognized her achievements by inducting her into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1987. She was also a recipient of the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold. Decades later, in 1998, Pollack joined several other former swimmers from the German Democratic Republic to address the conditions of their training. They provided public testimony alleging that they had been subjected to systematic doping protocols enforced by their team physicians and coaches.
Personal Life and Final Years
Following her competitive career, Pollack married the cyclist Norbert Pinske. Their son, Michael Pinske, carried on the family's athletic tradition by competing as a judoka at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Pollack held citizenship in both the German Democratic Republic and later unified Germany. She passed away in Berlin in 2019 at the age of 58.
