In January 2017, Isak transferred to Borussia Dortmund for a reported €9 million. He secured his first medal with the club during the 2016–17 DFB-Pokal campaign. After limited opportunities in Germany, he moved on loan to the Dutch club Willem II in 2019, where he became the first foreign-born player to score 12 goals in his first 12 Eredivisie matches. Later that year, he signed a five-year contract with Real Sociedad.
