After acquiring Almea, Spinelli rebranded the firm as Rebora. He executed a strategic overhaul by changing the truck fleet from blue to yellow and modifying trailers to facilitate containerized shipping. This focus on logistics established his reputation in the Italian transport sector. On December 27, 1990, he received the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, an honor granted by President Francesco Cossiga.

Spinelli entered the football industry on May 7, 1985, by taking control of Genoa. His 13-season tenure included six years in Serie A and notable successes, such as winning the Anglo-Italian Cup and advancing to the UEFA Cup semi-finals. A primary milestone during this period was defeating Liverpool at Anfield, marking the first time an Italian team achieved such a result. He resigned as club president on October 11, 1997.
Management of Livorno
In 1999, Spinelli became president of Livorno. He guided the team from Serie C1 to Serie A by 2004, maintaining top-tier status for four seasons and reaching the round of 32 in the 2006–2007 UEFA Cup. Following several relegations and subsequent promotions, he oversaw a competitive revival during the 2017–2018 season, which saw the team return to Serie B. He officially stepped down and announced the sale of his shares to a group including Rosettano Navarra on September 11, 2020, concluding a 21-season tenure.
Political and Public Life
Beyond his business and sports interests, Spinelli served as a municipal councilor in Genoa between 1997 and 2002. He held this position during the first administration of Mayor Giuseppe Pericu, representing the PRI-Socialists political list.
