Early Development and Coaching
Peaty’s journey in the water began at age four following an early aversion to bathing. He joined the Dove Valley Swimming Club at nine and moved to the City of Derby Swimming Club at 14 under the guidance of coach Melanie Marshall. The year 2014 served as his competitive breakout. At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, he secured gold in the 100-metre breaststroke and the 4x100-metre medley relay. Shortly thereafter, at the European Championships, he established his first world record in the 50-metre breaststroke. By 2015, he became the first man to swim the 100-metre distance in under 58 seconds, setting the trajectory for his sustained success at the World Aquatic Championships.
