Formative Years and Education
Born in Copenhagen in 1910, Acton Bjørn pursued technical and artistic training during his youth. He attended the Copenhagen Technical College between 1926 and 1930 before enrolling at the Kunstakademiets Arkitektskole, where he studied from 1931 to 1933. His parents were building painter Ove B. and Ellen Marie Kjær.
Early Architectural Work
Bjørn began his architectural career by contributing to residential projects. Between 1933 and 1934, he collaborated with Ivar Bentsen and Jørgen Berg on the development of Blidah, a housing project located in Hellerup. This period established his professional foundation in Denmark.

In 1949, Bjørn transitioned into industrial design by forming a partnership with Sigvard Bernadotte, establishing the first design practice of its kind in Scandinavia. The firm facilitated the work of designers such as Jacob Jensen and Jan Trägårdh. Among their most recognized outputs was the Margrethe Bowl, produced for Rosti A/S in 1955.
Independent Practice
Following his lengthy collaboration with Bernadotte, Bjørn assumed sole leadership of the design firm in 1966. He maintained this role until 1990. During these final decades of his career, he continued his work in the architectural and industrial fields within the Kingdom of Denmark.
Legacy
Acton Bjørn died in 1992 in Charlottenlund at the age of 82. He was buried at Gentofte Kirkegård. His contributions to Modernism remain documented through his realized architectural structures and the industrial products he developed for production.
