Academic Background and Early Work
Before his entry into high-level politics, Eban completed his education at St Olave's and St Saviour's Grammar School, Queens' College, and Pembroke College. His academic focus included proficiency in Hebrew, Arabic, and Persian. During the Second World War, he served in the British Army, acting as an intelligence officer in Jerusalem and training volunteers for local resistance.

Eban played a significant role in the international recognition of Israel, particularly through his work as a liaison officer to the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine in 1947. Following his diplomatic efforts there, he held key international positions, including ambassador to the United States from 1950 to 1959. Throughout his tenure, he influenced major resolutions, such as those passed in 1967 and 1973.
Political Career in Israel
Returning to Israel permanently in 1959, Eban held various ministerial and parliamentary roles. He served as Minister without portfolio from 1959 to 1960 and held multiple terms in the Knesset between 1961 and 1988. He also acted as president of the Weizmann Institute of Science during the early 1960s. His career in the Israeli government concluded with his later Knesset terms before his death in Tel Aviv in 2002.
