🇬🇧 Breandan Vallance

The 2009 world title

The world championship is run by the World Cube Association, which ratifies results and maintains the official record database. Vallance won the 3x3 speedsolve title with a 10.74-second average — the mean of a set of solves, not a single lucky scramble, which is what makes an average the harder number to produce.

Speedcubing is scored this way precisely to defeat luck. Any competent cuber can catch one easy scramble; an average punishes the solve that goes wrong. Winning a world final on average means being the most consistent person in the hall, not the fastest once.

Every PLL under a second

PLL is the final step of the CFOP method: the permutation of the last layer, a fixed library of algorithms each of which moves the last pieces into place. Vallance was the first cuber documented to execute every one of them in under a second.

That record is invisible to the public and enormous inside the sport. It is the difference between knowing the algorithms and owning them — a matter of finger tricks, grip and muscle memory rather than of understanding the cube. The Speedsolving wiki records his style as CFOP with advanced F2L and fast PLL, which is the technical description of the same thing.

jammyman3014

He has competed under the WCA identifier 2007VALL01 since 2007 and is known online as jammyman3014, the name on his YouTube channel, where his PLL demonstrations circulated among cubers. The wiki also records, without further comment, that he is a seven-ball juggler.

Speedcubing built its technique library this way. Before institutional coaching existed, methods spread through video: a cuber filmed a solve, others slowed it down, and a finger trick discovered in one bedroom became standard practice worldwide within a season. A champion's value to the sport was partly what he won and partly what other people could copy from him.

After 2009

In 2014 he won the European 5x5 speedsolve championship — a larger cube with a much longer solve, where the skills are pattern recognition and endurance rather than raw execution speed. Moving up a cube size and winning a continental title is a different achievement from defending a 3x3 crown.

The sources used here do not follow him beyond that. There is no documented retirement, career or current ranking in this material, and this page does not supply one.

What is documented — and what is not

Documented: the 2009 world championship with a 10.74-second average, the sub-second PLL record, the 2014 European 5x5 title, his WCA identifier, his method and his online name.

Open: his birth year and age at the world title, the venue of the 2009 championship and his individual solve times there. The research record also notes that these are secondary sources — the official WCA profile could not be retrieved — so the results here should be read against the WCA database rather than instead of it.

Questions people ask about Breandan Vallance

What did Breandan Vallance win?

The 2009 Rubik's Cube World Championship in the 3x3 speedsolve, with an average of 10.74 seconds, and the European 5x5 title in 2014.

How old is Breandan Vallance?

The sources used here do not give his birth year or age. They record that he has been competing since 2007.

What is PLL?

Permutation of the last layer — the final stage of the CFOP solving method, a library of set algorithms. Vallance was the first person documented to perform every one of them in under a second.

What is his cubing name?

jammyman3014, the handle on his YouTube channel and the name most cubers know him by.

Is a 10.74-second average fast today?

World-record averages have fallen substantially since 2009 as methods and hardware improved. The sources used here document the 2009 result rather than comparing it with current times.

Is Breandan Vallance on Wikipedia?

Not with an article of his own. He is referenced in Wikipedia's articles on speedcubing and the World Cube Association, and profiled on the Speedsolving wiki.

Where is Breandan Vallance now?

No source used here says. The documented record ends with the 2014 European title.

What is the World Cube Association?

The body that governs competitive speedcubing, ratifies results and keeps the official database of records against which claims like these are checked.
